Coming into the electrical game in Australia?

Let’s get one thing straight. This isn’t just a job. It’s a licensed, layered, and heavily regulated trade.

If you don’t understand how it works, you’ll fall behind fast.

Here’s how the system works:

4 Year Apprenticeship

You’ll be learning through real site work, TAFE study, and logging every step you take.

TAFE + Site equals Progress

Passing theory is only half of it. You need to prove it on the tools.

Licensing Comes After You Earn It

Finishing your apprenticeship and passing your Capstone lets you apply for your electrical license. Until then, you’re not a licensed sparkie.

Contracting is a Separate Level

Running your own jobs or business requires a contractor license. That’s its own process.

Safety Is the First Rule

Licensed sparkies are legally responsible for their work. One mistake can end a life or a career.

Pro Tip

Ask your boss or supervisor about their licensing journey. You’ll learn more from their story than from a full week of theory.
