A lot of new apprentices are shocked when they see how a real day on site flows. It’s fast, it’s structured, and there’s not much room to slack off.
Here’s what a typical day in the life of an Australian electrical tradie might look like:
5:30 AM – Wake Up and Prep
Most tradies start early. No excuses. If you’re still groggy at 6 AM, you're already behind.
6:15 AM – Arrive on Site Early
First rule is beat the boss. This is when tools get unloaded, pre starts happen, and plans get discussed.
6:30 AM – Toolbox Talk and SWMS
Safety meeting, job breakdown, and everyone signs on to the SWMS. Miss this and you're out.
6:45 AM – First Run of Work
It could be chasing walls, pulling cables, fitting off gear or prepping for inspection. You’ll be on the tools or assisting with setups.
10:30 AM – Lunch
Eat, hydrate, and check in with the supervisor. Ask questions about the job. Show initiative.
11:15 AM – Afternoon Push
Finishing installs, labeling, testing, cleanup, and loading materials for the next job. It’s often the heaviest push of the day.
3:30 PM – Pack Up and Clean Up
No one wants to come back to a mess tomorrow. Pack up gear, sweep the site, load the van properly.
4:00 PM – Head Off
But smart apprentices review the day. What did you learn? What could you do faster or safer tomorrow?
Pro Tip
Use the drive home to reflect or listen to an audio lesson. That’s how you level up faster than the rest.
